Usually, after a defeat, you have plenty of downbeat fans who want nothing less than to talk about their side. However, not all Newcastle fans were like that after the game and a lot of them were desperate to rave over the performance of their Venezuelan hitman, Salomon Rondon.
— Salomón Rondón (@salorondon23) 9 December 2018
Everything good that came from Rafa Benitez’s side came through Salomon Rondon and you could tell he was in the mood after he managed to test Rui Patricio with a fizzing snapshot after taking the ball down in the box less than one minute into the game. Eventually, he would produce a goal and it came moments after he’d struck the underside of the bar with a vicious free-kick, eventually whipping a peach of a ball in for Ayoze Perez to head home.
In truth, it was one of those games where the big man just deserved to score one, and the fans aren’t quite sure how he didn’t. The live commentary in the Sky Sports Score Centre app claimed that Rondon had ‘turned into a Didier Drogba type figure’ and it’s hard to disagree going off of the way he bullied the Wolves backline. On any other day he would almost certainly have scored, and the fact that he didn’t just shows how influential he can be even when he’s not on target.
You can read the Magpies’ thoughts on Rondon’s performance here:
Not the result Salomon but another superb shift you put in. Fast becoming a cult hero, sheer graft a guile.

Suprised you didn't drop Mike Dean in the tunnel!

The Geordies all agree that Rondon was sublime and if the big man can put in some more shifts like that this season then it’s hard to see a place for Newcastle in the bottom three.
