The goalkeeper’s deal at St James’s Park has two years left to run and there have been discussions over a new contract.
The Englishman had hoped to go out on loan before yesterday’s transfer deadline, but the 21-year-old will stay at Newcastle until the New Year.
The young goalkeeper is still yet to receive a proper chance in the first team, despite enjoying a successful loan spell at Aberdeen last season. But, he is now set to stay at the club until January, with a new contract coming the way of the 21-year-old.
Indeed, Newcastle United have had a number of worries in terms of goalkeeping displays last season, but Benitez now has two consistent performers at his disposal in the form of Martin Dubravka and Freddie Woodman.
