Our Newcastle fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that their side is going to produce the goods late on this Deadline Day as they aim to bolster their squad.
The men from St. James’ Park have not had the transfer window they would have liked this summer but that can be partially salvaged at least if they manage to bring a few top names before the deadline passes.
Who that could be, then, remains to be seen but it seems as though they are making a serious attempt at trying to sign Matt Targett from Southampton.
Indeed, that is according to TeamTalk at least, who are of the opinion that the Magpies and the Saints are in talks over a potential move for the young full-back.
The England U21 international signed a new contract with the Saints earlier in the window and so the deal would only be a temporary one but with the Saints boasting the likes of Ryan Bertand, it would make sense for him to go elsewhere this year.
Indeed, it could just be that he switches the south coast for Tyneside.
Matt Targett is just another of the fine young players to come through at Southampton in recent years but he does need to be playing now to truly reach his potential.
For sure, he’s got the ability to play in the Premier League regularly and if Newcastle can get him – even on a loan – they should be paid back by the player pretty quickly in performances.
