Newcastle United can finally start to prepare for their summer transfer activity, although that has hardly counted for much in the past.
With Rafa Benitez’s side securing their place in the Premier League for another season, the Magpies must look to bring in players to help them improve and ensure they are not sucked into another relegation battle.
As is the case at this time of year, the transfer rumour mill goes into overdrive and Newcastle do not appear to be exempt from it, with the Magpies being linked with a young South American forward.
What’s the News?
According to a report by Foot-Sur 7, who claim their information comes from the Venezuelan press, Newcastle are interested in signing Jan Carlos Hurtado.
The 19-year-old has been making a name for himself with Gimnasia y Esgrima in Argentina this season, which has led to the Magpies becoming keen on him, although Olympique de Marseille and Atalanta are both also thought to be keen on the South American.
Not too much is known about Hurtado, however, it would seem that he has a bright future ahead of him if reports are anything to go by.
The 19-year-old has only managed to grab two goals and two assists so far, although it is only his breakthrough campaign and one that many likely expect to get better as time goes by.
If clubs like Marseille, Atalanta and Newcastle are all said to be interested, then there the South American must have some potential.
A Venezuela international, Hurtado could look to use Salomon Rondon as a point of reference about life at St James’ Park, which could help to convince him to join the Premier League outfit should they look to sign him.
The Magpies could also look to use their current striker as a way of getting to know a little bit more about Hurtado as he may know him personally, or have some mutual connections that could help to give them some information about the teenager.
Hurtado would certainly fit the mould of signing young players with a potential sell on value, however, whether he is worth Newcastle taking a punt on is something that remains to be seen.
Newcastle fans, what do you make of the links surrounding you and Hurtado? Do you think Rondon could be crucial in regards to anything happening? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts below.
