Newcastle interested in Tom Cairney - Latest News

Newcastle United fans will be delighted with their side’s performance yesterday, as three Ayoze Perez goals helped seal an emphatic win over Southampton at St James’ Park.

The Magpies are definitely heading in the right direction at this moment in time but the real problem is whether the club can tie Rafa Benitez down to a long-term deal in the near future.

What’s the News?

Although, it looks as if the Tyneside club are looking at the possibility of another deal at this moment in time, as according to Football Insider, Newcastle United are eyeing Fulham’s Tom Cairney.

Interestingly, the Magpies are believed to be willing to sell Dwight Gayle in part-exchange.

It’s also understood that Benitez is convinced left-footed Cairney has the creativity and passing range to be a major asset in his Newcastle side and is keen on a summer deal.

The Verdict:

Tom Cairney, who is valued at £13.5 million (by Transfermarkt), would be a great signing for the Magpies as he’s exactly what they need in attacking areas, with the ability to pick a defence-splitting pass and grab the odd goal.

More importantly, the Englishman could unleash January signing Miguel Almiron as he’s received very little service up until this point, but that would all change with Cairney in the side as he’s helped turned Aleksandar Mitrovic into a quality striker in recent years. His passing and ability to drag defenders out of position would work wonders for Almiron, as it would provide him with the space to work in, as well as creating countless opportunities for him.

Losing Dwight Gayle wouldn’t be a problem as he’s never managed to impress in the Premier League.
