Our resident Newcastle United fans who were queuing at the bar have caught word of an article in The Daily Mail which claims that their club are interested in joining the race for Saido Berahino and have been extremely excited since.
The 22-year old has been linked with a move to Spurs once more in recent weeks, whilst Chelsea are another London outfit who are said to be interested.
However, The Daily Mail claim that Newcastle have taken pole position in the race to sign the unsettled striker and will reinforce their interest in the coming days with an £18 million bid.
The Magpies’ manager Steve McClaren is keen to improve his attacking options before the transfer window slams shut at the beginning of next month, whilst the club have been interested in the Englishman even since before McClaren’s arrival.
Meanwhile, the West Bromich Albion striker has suffered from limited game time at the club, having only started 8 league games this season after his failed summer switch to Tottenham, with Baggies boss Tony Pulis reportedly prepared to finally allow a departure this month.
Should Berahino make the move to Newcastle, he would become the club’s third signing this month, having already signed Jonjo Shelvey from Swansea and Henri Saivet from Bordeaux.
Our landlord has stated that Berahino could light up St James’ Park with his goalscoring ability, with the Toon only managing 24 goals from 22 league fixtures this term.
Newcastle fans, would you like to see Berahino join your club? Let us know in the comments below!
