Newcastle keen on Magpies old boy

carroll.jpgFootball Transfer Tavern’s favourite hairy striker Andy Carroll could be set for a move back to Newcastle United in the summer.

The West Ham United loanee has struggled to find any sort of form in the East End of London and has been dropped by Roy Hodgson and England.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to offload the unwanted lanky striker as he doesn’t fit in with his philosophy of football that he is forcing on the Anfield club.

The Hammers have an agreement with the Reds that they can sign the striker permanently in the summer but if Newcastle come calling, Carroll will find an offer to go ‘home’ too hard to turn down.

The Toon’s managing director Derek Llambias has revealed that the North East side still have a place in their hearts for the Magpies academy graduate.

“We’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for Andy here,” Llambias told the Chronicle.

“He’s a character and he’s getting older and more mature – and he’s stronger. It’s unlucky what has happened at West Ham. But he scored a great goal at the weekend.

“He’s still got a house up here. Andy was part and parcel of our growth.”

“We were criticised for the last-day deal, but what do you do? We have a responsibility and it was a big gamble to lose him at that stage.

“It was one we felt the club needed. I’m sure he will pick up and do what he needs to, he’s a great player.”

Carroll has only scored twice in the Premier League since making the move from Anfield in the summer.
