Newcastle United fans have arrived at the Football Transfer Tavern to find out news reported by local paper The Chronicle that the Magpies have agreed a fee with Montpellier for defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.
Montpellier have accepted a £6.7 million offer from the Magpies and the Ligue 1 skipper has now entered talks over personal terms which are close to being finalised as he looks like the next Frenchman to arrive at St. James’ Park.
The classy 23-year-old defender has been long-term target for Alan Pardew and his possible arrival could act as a replacement for Fabricio Coloccini who looks set to quit the club next week.
The current Newcastle captain will meet with the club on Monday to sort out his situation and could have played his last game for the Magpies against Reading today as he could return to Argentina soon.
Pardew will now hope that Yanga-Mbiwa will be able to shore up the shaky Toon Army defence who have suffered with injuries all season long. There was some further good news as Steven Taylor made the bench again today after a long lay off.
