Punters in the Football Transfer Tavern have been given three guesses to what the Daily Mirror is claiming Newcastle United are set to do. It only took half a guess for someone to quip bid for another Ligue 1 player and they are exactly right.
It was only yesterday that we were discussing the possibility that the club needed to have a contingency plan in case they could not keep hold of their centre half and captain Fabricio Coloccini in the summer and now it seems another defender is on their radar.
Alan Pardew has been tracking Cameroon international Aurelien Chedjou for some time now and is stepping up his attempts to land the Lille defender before Valencia also swoop in with a bid. It is thought that Les Dogues are asking for around £12 million for the 27-year-old and would be willing to let him leave should the price be right.
The Magpies of course are now well known for their love of the French top flight and much like Michael Laudrup and La Liga, they stick to what they know best and it tends to do very well for them. Not only this but Pardew wishes to build on his current squad for next season and try to push for a good cup run and also get closer to the top end of the division in what is an ever more competitive Premier League.
Will Chedjou be the latest French-based star to rock up at St. James’ Park? Rate this rumour below.
