There are heads shaking in disagreement here in the Football Transfer Tavern as the Daily Mail claim that Newcastle United are considering a swap deal with Marseille with Steven Taylor departing in return for Cameroon international Nicolas N’Koulou.
The club have been after the 23-year-old former Monaco man for some time now and are fully aware that Marseille are major fans of Toon legend Steven Taylor and may be willing to do business if he is part of any potential transfer package.
The valuation of the defender is slightly more that what Alan Pardew both has to spend and is willing to pay but given that the French club are willing to consider a player exchange plus cash means a move could well be on. The Cameroonian himself is open to a move and noted that: “The club and me are together on my future. If they receive an offer they can’t refuse, then we will have to part company.”
Quite what Steven Taylor thinks of all this remains to be seen but should he get the chance to move to France at least he will find a friend in former Magpies compatriot Joey Barton.
