The Newcastle United fans who are competing in a pool tournament in The Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing comments made by one of their players about the manager.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that Cheik Tiote is hailing Rafael Benitez for bringing belief back into the football club.
Benitez took over from Steve McClaren with the club in a perilous position but they now have a fighting chance of being a Premier League side next season after their recent run of good results. Speaking about Benitez, Tiote said:
“He brings a different mentality. Everyone knows that if they don’t perform they will be on the bench. That is good for the team. Everyone has to fight for their chance. We believe in ourselves and work hard as a team and we have to do the same thing.”
“When he gives you a chance you have to fight for your place to stay in the team. If you are Tiote, or another player, you have to fight to stay in the Premier League.”
The Newcastle fans in The Tavern agree with Tiote’s comments and firmly believe that their side can go on and get out of the relegation zone by the end of the season.
