Everyone has been waiting for the moment Newcastle United make their move to sign a replacement for Demba Ba here in the Football Transfer Tavern, and Mark Ryan of the Daily Mail reckons that moment may be close.
French striker Loic Remy is the man in question, with it being reported Marseille have accepted a £10 million bid from the St. James’ Park-based club.
Magpies boss Alan Pardew said: “It isn’t just one deal that appears to be hotting up — there are three or four and we need that.’
Newcastle have endured a winter of discontent so far, selling top scorer Demba Ba to Chelsea for £7m while slipping down the Premier League table, and reports have also emerged that club captain Fabio Coloccini is looking for a move home to Argentina. The only bright spot for Magpies fans is that the club have managed to bring in French international full back Mathieu Debuchy from Lille.
QPR had also been linked with a move for Remy, although manager Harry Redknapp has revealed he is now out of the running to make the signing.
“He didn’t want to come,” said Redknapp. “It doesn’t help when you’re bottom. Players will look at that and if there are other clubs in England after them, it can be difficult.”
