The Newcastle United fans were delighted by the impact of Kenedy in the club’s bid for survival last season, and they are desperately hoping he will return to St James’ Park once again this summer.
Much to the delight of the resident Magpies propping up our bar, recent reports suggest they could be set to receive their wish and witness Kenedy in the black and white stripes of Newcastle again next season. According to Teamtalk, Newcastle have asked Chelsea if they can sign the Brazilian on loan this summer, whilst Benitez is also eager to bring Tammy Abraham to St James’ as part of a double loan deal for two of the Blues’ brightest young talents.
Newcastle’s interest in the aforementioned pairing is bound to please the Newcastle supporters, but the fact the club are considering loan deals should also represent a genuine cause for concern. After the impact Kenedy has had at the club, it seems strange that they are only contemplating another loan deal, so they must ensure that the terms of the deal include an option to buy permanently when the season reaches is conclusion.
As for Abraham, he showed decent promise at Swansea during a season long-loan, but the fact he was unable to hold down a regular starting berth within a side who were relegated from the Premier League is a concerning sign for the Magpies. However, he is worth taking a chance on next season as the fact he is only 20-years-of-age can explain his struggle for form.
Once again, though, Benitez must ensure that the club have an option to buy at the end of the season, as a goal-scoring frenzy on Tyneside is bound to catch the attention of plenty of Premier League clubs. In all honesty, Newcastle need to begin making permanent signings to build a solid squad for the future this summer, as their decision to sign players on loan does not represent a strong long-term strategy for remaining in the top-flight.
Newcastle are in danger of becoming a yo-yo club if they fail to learn from their past mistakes, so they must ensure that they have the option to buy their pair of loan targets when they negotiate a deal with Chelsea this summer.
