Newcastle must land this £18m-rated ace to convince stars like Lascelles to stay at the club

Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern are excited about the future under Rafael Benitez – our punters reckon they can challenge for Europe if the Spaniard stays.

The former Liverpool boss guided the Magpies to tenth in the Premier League despite minimal investment in the playing squad from owner Mike Ashley. With Benitez linked to other clubs, Ashley must back the Spaniard in the transfer market so he can push them towards European qualification.

Benitez will not be pleased with the rumours swirling around his captain Jamaal Lascelles who has been linked with Liverpool following an excellent season. He has maintained his commitment to the club for now, but a summer with no marquee signings could surely see him jump ship. To keep him happy, Benitez must strengthen significantly.

The Magpies need goals. Joselu has been dreadful, and Islam Slimani struggled for fitness after arriving on loan. Dwight Gayle and Ayoze Perez could leave the club. Someone who could provide them is Real Sociedad striker – Willian Jose.

The 26-year-old has been in fine form this season, bagging 20 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions on the back of a 14 goal season the year before. His goalscoring exploits earned him a call-up to the Brazil squad earlier in the year. Valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, the Brazilian is just what Newcastle need.

A strong, quick, powerful forward with an eye for goal – Willian Jose has all the attributes to be a success in the Premier League. He is a serious aerial threat and can lead the line, suiting Benitez’s system to a tee.

The striker has been linked with Everton in the past, and the Toffees could rekindle their interest now the window is open. The Magpies must move quickly to bring him to St. James Park.
