Newcastle must secure huge deal for 22-year-old to avoid relegation next season

The Newcastle United supporters have been absolutely delighted with the performances of Kenedy since he signed on loan for the club during the January transfer window.

After failing to break into the first-team at Chelsea, Kenedy was finally handed an opportunity to showcase his talent in the Premier League when he moved to Tyneside in January. So far the 22-year-old Brazilian has taken full advantage of his opportunity by producing a handful of brilliant performances at a time when Newcastle were desperately devoid of attacking inspiration.

Kenedy has injected pace, flair and tenacity into Newcastle’s attacking play and, the Magpies improvement since he arrived at St James’ Park is certainly no coincidence. Newcastle are now just two points shy of the 40-point total which so notoriously guarantees survival in the Premier League, so it’s no surprise that rumours regarding summer transfers are already beginning to emerge.

According to The Northern Echo, Newcastle are interested in turning Kenedy’s temporary deal into a permanent one this summer, although they face competition from Bayern Munich, PSG and Tottenham for his signature. The interest from elsewhere is hardly surprising considering the quality of his form in 2018, but if Newcastle want to steer clear of a relegation battle again next season, they simply must sign Kenedy on a permanent deal.

Not only would Kenedy’s personal contribution to the team positively impact on their results, but it would send a statement of intent to the rest of Europe and perhaps pave the way for players of a similar calibre to also make the switch to Tyneside. Although it would be an exaggeration to describe Kenedy as a marque signing, the fact he is attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs tells you all you need to know about his enormous potential.

Signing Kenedy could ultimately prove to be the difference between a relegation scrap and an unlikely push for Europa League football next season, so there’s no doubt that Newcastle must do everything they can to convince him to sign a long-term deal to remain in the north-east when the season reaches its conclusion.
