Newcastle United supporters are discussing their latest signing over a pint in the Football Transfer Tavern, with several punters predicting big things.
22-year-old winger Florian Thauvin has become the latest Frenchman to sign on at St James’ Park, signing from Marseille for an undisclosed fee thought to be in the region of £12 million.
The Magpies have held a long term interest in the winger, having first attempted to sign him from Bastia before they were pipped by the former European champions.
And according to Thauvin, the Toon Army are not the only club that have attempted to bring him to the Premier League, with fellow countryman Arsene Wenger said to have tried to bring him to Arsenal previously, reports the Newcastle Chronicle.
Thauvin said: “Two or three seasons ago, Arsene Wenger perhaps made an approach with Arsenal, but apart from Arsenal, Newcastle are the only other club who have made an approach for me in the past.
“This is a big challenge and one I am looking forward to.”
Our resident Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Thauvin will excel under Steve McClaren at the club, and are praying he is an improvement on Remy Cabella!
