The Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping their club can secure a handful of signings this summer to boost their squad ahead of the new season, and recent reports regarding a deal for Kenedy suggest they are moving in the right direction.

The Breakdown

With Mike Ashley in charge of the club and no sign of the arrival of a new investor, the Newcastle supporters could be forced to accept a familiar reality this summer with regards to their transfer activity: a tight-fisted approach which lacks ambition. Naturally, the situation will frustrate Rafa Benitez after he masterminded a 10th place finish last season, but until a new owner is willing to takeover at St James' Park the Spaniard will be forced to operate with extremely limited resources.

Benitez did a commendable job in operating within the financial limits he is restricted to at Newcastle last season by completing 2 superb loan signings for Martin Dubravka and Kenedy.

With the former already signed on a permanent deal, it appears that Newcastle will also attempt to re-sign Chelsea's Brazilian talent this summer on another loan deal according to The Daily Mail.

And on the evidence of his brilliant form in Newcastle's survival bid last season it's safe to say another loan deal would represent a solid piece of business.

In an unexpected left-wing role Kenedy (valued at £9 million by Transfermarkt) injected tenacity and quality into Newcastle's play in the final-third which completely transformed the Magpies' threat going forward.

Although plenty of individuals played their part, Kenedy's impact was clearly pivotal to Newcastle's climb into 10th place, so bringing him back to the club this summer would represent a huge step towards survival before the new campaign gets underway.

Kenedy's job will become more difficult next season now that defenders know what to expect from the 22-year-old winger, but he certainly has the quality to deal with the challenge which lies ahead and play another starring role in Newcastle's season.
