Newcastle rejected several offers for Freddie Woodman

Newcastle United appear to have stood firm over a man that had attracted plenty of interest this summer.

According to a report by the Newcastle Chronicle, the Magpies received ‘more than half-a-dozen’ offers for Freddie Woodman this summer.

Plenty of different sides had wanted to take the 21-year-old on a loan deal this season, however, it appears Rafa Benitez is keen on keeping the goalkeeper in the northeast with him.

Woodman spent last season out on loan in the Scottish Premiership with Aberdeen and it would have been expected that a similar temporary deal would have been struck for the England Under-21 international this year.

However, with Newcastle rejecting more than six offers for the ‘keeper, it remains to be seen if he will play a role with the Toon Army this season or if the bids made were not quite what the Magpies were looking for.

The Verdict:

Woodman is highly rated at St. James’ Park and is thought to be one of Benitez’s brightest talents to come through the youth ranks.

It has to be said, however, with the club out of the League Cup, he is unlikely to face any first-team action this season with Martin Dubravka in goal.

That could suggest the offers received for Woodman were not quite what Newcastle had in mind for the £450k-rated talent, as per Transfermarkt, and they will feel that he is better suited to remain with them until January at the very least.
