Liverpool fans are looking up eagerly at the latest news to come from the Daily Mail here at the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed that the club are set to be joined by Newcastle United in their race to land Reading’s impressive young stopper Alex McCarthy.
The keeper put in a performance against Liverpool that led to Reds manager Brendan Rodgers claiming it could be one of the best goalkeeping displays he has ever seen and now it seems that the Merseysiders indeed want him on their side. Not only will they firstly have to prise him away from current club Reading where he is much more likely to receive first team chances but they will also have to fight Newcastle for him.
Liverpool are of course on the lookout for a new keeper after doubts over the future of Pepe Reina emerged and now it seems they have found their number one choice. Alan Pardew and the Magpies meanwhile have been monitoring the young keeper and feel that the 23-year-old could well a solution for the long-term. Of course, Tim Krul has been magnificent in recent years but AC Milan have been looking at acquiring his services recently.
Will the Reds pounce for McCarthy? Is he a Tim Krul replacement at Newcastle? Rate this rumour below.
