Newcastle United fans have seen a very busy day in the Transfer Tavern so far, which has kept our bar staff on their toes, and the situation seems to have been the same at St James’ Park.
France Football report that Newcastle United have submitted a £15.2m bid for Islam Slimani today, although the approach was quickly rejected by Sporting Lisbon.
The Magpies have already been busy in the forward front today as they sign Seydou Doumbia on-loan from Roma, and there was also time to hand Ayoze Perez a new contract, but Steve McClaren’s side are still searching for more recruits.
The proposed £15.2m signing would raise the transfer record from the January window so far but Sporting are not prepared to offload the Algerian international, seeing the 27-year-old as a crucial part of their squad.
With 16 goals in 19 appearances this term, and an overall record of 45 goals in 95 appearances, our landlord is in no doubt that Slimani would assure Newcastle of their Premier League status- but they’ll have to look elsewhere.
Newcastle fans, who do you expect to come in today? Let us know in the comments below!
