Newcastle set to tie up important January deal as Benitez looks to solve major gap in squad – report

It’s been a tough season so far for the Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern. Despite impressing in the Championship last season, they’ve seriously struggled upon their return to the English top flight, with a relegation battle looking likely to ensue in the second-half of the campaign.

Rafael Benitez is doing all he can, but there’s only so much that can be done with a limited squad, with the Magpies failing to improve their side significantly over the course of the summer. That looks set to change in January, though, with one deal already likely as good as secured.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle have agreed terms with Chelsea on a loan deal for versatile wide man Kenedy, with the deal reportedly set to be agreed in early January.

Kenedy has found life tough at Chelsea this season, but he has impressed when given a chance. He featured against Bournemouth on Wednesday night in the Carabao Cup, and he showed his quality and technique in droves. Indeed, a tricky piece of skill should have arguably earned him a penalty, but the play was waved on by the referee.

Newcastle are lacking depth and quality on the left-hand side, and so Kenedy is a great fit in that regard. Able to play at left-back, left-midfield and as a left-winger, the Brazilian is as versatile as they come, and he’ll be able to cover in numerous positions for Benitez.

This is a move that has generated a lot of excitement amongst the Magpies in the Transfer Tavern, with many now frantically searching for compilation videos on YouTube.

Landlord’s Verdict

This is a move that makes sense for all parties.

Kenedy should finally get some regular minutes, Chelsea will be able to get one of their most talented youngsters more game time, and Newcastle will get another option that they desperately need.

This is a win-win for Newcastle and Chelsea.
