Newcastle United eventually finished the transfer window with something of a flourish, with manager Rafa Benitez finally adding some names to his squad.

The Spaniard managed to get deals over the like for the likes of Salomon Rondon, Yoshinori Muto, and Federico Fernandez, all players who should instantly strengthen the ranks at St James' Park.

The Magpies finished tenth last season under Benitez, a tremendous effort given the squad available, and this year they will be looking to build further and make a fist of cracking the top eight in the Premier League.

However, to do so, they need more players throughout the course of the season, and we at the Transfer Tavern think a move for Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen might be something what can come to fruition in the winter window.

The Danish defender is likely to not be a regular under Maurizio Sarri, with the likes of Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz looking the main two central defenders at the moment, and Christiansen will not want to sit about and be on the bench after what was an excellent campaign for him last term.

Moving to the northeast and forming a long term partnership with Newcastle skipper Jamaal Lascelles could well appeal to the Blues defender, and regular first team football will only aid his development further.

Christiansen proved himself to be a class act last term, and if Newcastle can make a move for him come January, they would have quite the player on their hands.

Newcastle fans, what do you think? Would you take Christiansen? Let us know!
