Newcastle United fans have had quite a lot to shout about in recent times as Rafa Benitez has got his side playing the kind of football that the fans have been craving.

The Magpies are looking threatening as they continue to climb up the Premier League table, which comes as some surprise as many fans thought everything would go downhill without Sean Longstaff in the side.

However, one thing that is certain is the fact that Rafa Benitez needs to solve the Magpies' problem position in the summer transfer window, which is currently at left-back.

Javier Manquillo has failed to impress in the current campaign and Matt Ritchie isn't a natural left wing-back, while Paul Dummett has been used out of position recently and Antonio Barreca just hasn't been able to live up to expectations, so there's clearly room for improvements.

One player who appears to be interesting the Magpies is Brentford's Yoann Barbet, who could be available on a free transfer in the summer transfer window with his contract set to expire at the end of the season. According to Calciomercato (via HITC), Newcastle United are interested in signing the Frenchman.

Barbet is a very versatile defender who can play at left-back or at the heart of the defence, so he would be the perfect signing for Newcastle United. And, with the 25-year-old potentially available on a free in the summer months, it's a no-brainer for Rafa Benitez and the Magpies.

Benitez has struggled to get Mike Ashley to spend over the years, despite Ashley signing Miguel Almiron back in January, but he wouldn't have to beg the Newcastle owner to bring Barbet to the club as he could cost nothing.
