Newcastle got off to a losing start on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, losing 2-0 to an impressive Spurs side at St James’ Park.
Manager Rafa Benitez has not quite had the backing he thought he might get this summer, but has still managed to bring in some decent signings over the summer so far.
The Toon Army here in the Tavern remain in a confident mood, and they have been chatting with our landlord this week about the summer transfer window and who the club should look to bring in before it closes in a few weeks.
One player who popped up in conversation over by the pool table this week is former midfielder Moussa Sissoko, who was sold to Spurs last year for £30m.
His debut season in London though has not gone to plan. His form has been poor, and Spurs fans are hardly sold on him. A move away from the Londoners could well be ideal, and moving back to where he played his best football in Newcastle could well be a good move.
Sissoko will have a point to prove, and will want to get minutes under his belt as he hopes to seal a place in the France squad for Russia 2018. Signing back on for the Toon could well be a positive move, and the Magpies would get him for a snippet of the £30m they sold him to Spurs for.
This move could divide opinion, but Sissoko is certainly a player who can add quality to the Newcastle ranks.
