Newcastle United are eagerly awaiting their opening game of the new season following their Championship winning campaign in the second tier last year.
With manager Rafa Benitez at the helm, they should go pretty well, although the Spaniard has not quite had the success of backing in the transfer market he might have been hoping for thus far.
However, the recent signing of Kenedy on loan from Chelsea looks a decent pick up, and our landlord here in the Tavern thinks that the Toon should not stop there in their raids on the Premier League champions.
One player he thinks they should make a move for is French striker Loic Remy, who has already enjoyed a spell on Tyneside earlier on in his career, where he scored some excellent goals and put in some superb performances.
Remy’s career has tailed off somewhat over the past few seasons, but there is a top player in there. Newcastle need strikers, and can not be over reliant on Dwight Gayle delivering, while Ayoze Perez and Mitrovic are hardly convincing options either.
The pacey French forward would offer Newcastle some real quality in the attacking third of the pitch, meaning there is a good chance of him firing them to Premier League safety.
Remy will want some football this season with little chance of him getting it at Chelsea, and a move back to the North East could well be the perfect scenario.
Toon Army, what do you think? Would you welcome Remy back? Give us your thoughts!
