Newcastle fans around the Tavern will e celebrating more than just the New Year after Ayoze Perez committed his future to the club, according to the Metro.
The speedy forward confirmed that bigger clubs like Manchester United and Tottenham have expressed an interest in signing him when the transfer window reopens, but insisted that he was happy in the North East.
Spanish striker Perez has been one of the Magpies’ more convincing performers so far this season, having netted 4 goals in 15 league appearances.
The 22-year old moved to Steve McClaren’s side from Tenerife in 2014 and was the subject of a late bid from Spurs themselves in last summer’s transfer window.
Meanwhile, Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United side are desperate for more goalscoring outlets, having only managed to score 22 goals in 17 matches so far this term.
However, despite the interest of conventionally bigger English clubs, Perez confirmed that he’d like to stay at Newcastle. Speaking to Radio Club Tenerife, Perez said:
“There is truth in the talk about interest in me. It’s rewarding for me. There is much truth in the interest from Tottenham and Man United, but my place is at Newcastle.”
