With a well-publicised £7.5 million release clause in his contract at St. James’ Park, Demba Ba is a player linked with a whole host of Premier League clubs and today is the turn of Chelsea with Sky Sports breaking news of the possible transfer to Stamford Bridge during the Blues game against Everton.
Sky Sports have reported this afternoon that Chelsea are in talks with the 27-year-old’s agent to bring the Senegal international to Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window
With Daniel Sturridge preparing to seal a £12 million move to Anfield when the window opens next week, Chelsea do require a new striker to assist Fernando Torres and it appears that Rafael Benitez has settled on the Newcastle marksman.
Ba, who joined Newcastle from West Ham in the summer of 2011, has been in outstanding form this season and his two goals in the Magpies’ 7-3 weekend defeat to Arsenal took him to an impressive 13 goals in all competitions.
Newcastle clearly do not want to lose their main frontman but have already conceded that they cannot prevent him leaving due to the release clause in his current deal and Alan Pardew has lined up Marseille striker Loic Remy as a replacement.
