With just a few games left to go of the Premier League season, Newcastle United will know picking up three points against Crystal Palace on Saturday is as crucial as ever. Rafa Benitez’s side sit just seven points clear of Cardiff City as just one spot in the bottom three remains open.
The Eagles only sit above the Magpies in the table by one point and will also be desperate to try and pull away further from the drop zone, however, Newcastle could be without three of their main men for the London outfit’s visit and could harm their chances of securing a positive result.
What’s the News?
According to a match preview by Sky Sports, Mo Diame, DeAndre Yedlin and Isaac Hayden are all considered doubts for the game.
The trio will all be assessed by Benitez ahead of kickoff, leaving them in a race against time to make sure they are fit and available to feature.
Some good news, however, is that Fabian Schar is ready to make a return to action.
Newcastle have a number of tough games left in the Premier League and picking up a win on Saturday will ease the pressure on them heading into those fixtures, as three points could take them potentially 10 clear of the final relegation spot and effectively keep them safe.
The match against Palace will be one of their most difficult as the Eagles are in the same position as the Magpies and will look to do the same and with all the injury doubts that Benitez’s side has, it could be a challenging encounter.
Yedlin and Hayden have played key starting roles for the Toon Army this season and have been solid at times in the defensive areas, whilst Diame is the type of player to add muscle in the midfield when Newcastle have needed him.
The Senegal international is also the type of player who can make forward runs with the ball and have an effort on goal if the opportunity presents itself, whilst he has also been one of the club’s best defensive midfielders in recent campaigns, although the emergence of Sean Longstaff has seen his appearances become limited.
Newcastle fans, how concerning is it that Yedlin, Hayden and Diame are all doubts for the game against Crystal Palace? Do you think they will be significant blows if they are not passed fit? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
