Newcastle United might be safe from the drop for another season, however, you can rest assured that Rafa Benitez’s side will still look to put in a solid performance.
The Magpies make the long journey to the Amex Stadium for Saturday night’s trip for their match against Brighton and Hove Albion, however, they will be without two of their key men for the encounter.
What’s the News?
According to a match preview by the club’s official website, Newcastle will be without Jamaal Lascelles and Miguel Almiron for their long trip to the south coast.
The Magpies’ skipper has been suffering from illness all week and has been ruled out of contention, whilst the Paraguay international picked up a season-ending hamstring injury against Southampton last weekend.
If Almiron’s injury was not a big enough blow for Newcastle to have to deal with, Lascelles’ latest problem will have thrown the cat amongst the pigeons.
Both men have been key performers for the Magpies this season and have played contributing roles in their efforts to remain in the Premier League for another campaign.
Brighton will pose a tricky threat on Saturday night as they are continuing to play for their place in the top-flight, however, the Toon Army could potentially still have something other than pride to play for.
With survival guaranteed, picking up wins in their final few games could help Newcastle earn more money in terms of prize money, which may allow them to have more funds available in the upcoming transfer window.
Should that happen, there could be an even better chance of trying to convince Benitez that the club is the right project for him and get him to finally commit his long-term future to St James’ Park.
