There are some interesting reports arriving in the Football Transfer Tavern this morning as The Telegraph indicates that Newcastle have made the first move for Monpellier’s Remy Cabella, who is also a target for Manchester United.
The Magpies will be be required to pay around £14m to sign the 23-year-old, and although no official bid has been submitted they have been in contact with the Ligue 1 club to inquire about his future.
Cabella, who can play on either wing, has found the net six times this season for the struggling French side and his potential arrival at St James’ Park would provide fresh competition for Hatem Ben Arfa, who has recently been left of Alan Pardew’s first team squad.
Newcastle may yet face competition from Manchester United with the Red Devils thought to be monitoring the French international with a view to possible future move.
It is believed that Pardew wants to add an attacker and a defender during the current window with the talented midfielder the first on his wishlist.
Everton’s centre-back John Heitinga is expected to arrive on Tyneside in the next few weeks after it was revealed he had turned down a move to West Ham.
