Arsenal and Newcastle United fans are at odds over reports from the Evening Chronicle that indicate Yohan Cabaye wants to make the switch to the Emirates Stadium.
The Frenchman will try to force a move this week but faces an anxious wait to see if the Gunners will pay the asking price.
The French international was the subject of a failed bid from the Emirates Stadium, thought to be around £10 million, and Arsene Wenger is thought to be preparing an improved offer for the 27-year-old of around £13 million.
He refused to play for Alan Pardew’s side for the second time against West Ham United on Saturday as he attempts to leave St. James’ Park during the current transfer window.
Arsenal could yet face competition from Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain who are understood to be tracking the former Lille man with a view to a possible move.
The Magpies are looking for nearer £20 million for Cabaye as they try not to lose an important player so close to the transfer deadline and Pardew said he wants to make sure his squad has enough depth for the season.
Talking about the growing possibility of Cabaye’s exit, Pardew said: “We are on the case with that. We have to be armed.”
However, Pardew seemed resigned to losing his French ace after the 0-0 draw with West Ham.
He said: “We need to resolve it. If he goes, good luck to him. Bye, bye.
“We need to replace him with somebody as good.”
