The Newcastle United fans who are gathered at the bar in The Transfer Tavern this evening, are discussing reports that the club could soon be confirming the signing of a new striker.
According to reports on HITC Sport the Championship side have agreed personal terms with Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle.
Gayle joined Crystal Palace for a then club record of £4.5 million from Peterborough United in 2013 following a prolific spell in front of goal for the East Anglian side.
The 25-year-old is said to be delighted to be making the move to the North East and hopes to help fire the club back to the Premier League at the first attempt next season.
Gayle has found chances limited at Crystal Palace since the arrival of Alan Pardew as the club’s manager and is moving for the chance of more regular first team football.
The striker’s arrival will give the club a massive boost, although the likes of Moussa Sissoko and Georginio Wijnaldum are highly likely to leave St James Park this summer.
Our resident Magpies here in the Tavern are delighted with this news, and can’t wait to see Gayle in a black and white shirt!
