There is interesting speculation in the Football Transfer Tavern today as Mail Online report that Newcastle United want to add Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac to their growing French legion at St. James’ Park.
A possible transfer is being orchestrated by Magpies chief scout Graham Carr who has proved so influential in signing some of the best young talent from around Europe.
Carr has reportedly been tracking the powerful 27-year-old forward who featured for France in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa with Gignac now having made 12 appearances for Les Bleus.
With 18 goals in 37 games for Marseille last season, he could certainly more cutting edge to the Newcastle attack that struggled after star striker Demba Ba left for Chelsea in January.
It was only yesterday that speculation in the tavern emerged that Alan Pardew was looking at Vitesse Arnhem’s in-demand forward Wilfried Bony as a possible signing this summer but the Mail dismisses these suggestions with the Ivory Coast international reportedly in talks with Swansea City instead.
Gignac would be available for around £12 million with the Stade Velodrome-based club ready to cash in on their talented forward.
