Not many teams are able to rival Barcelona in the transfer market, so supporters inside the Football Transfer Tavern are surprised to learn that both West Ham United and Newcastle United are ready to rival the Catalan giants for a highly rated Ligue 1 defender, according to sources at talkSPORT.
Toulouse defender Aymen Abdennour has been earning rave reviews for his performances in France, so much so that Barcelona are reportedly keen on making him the long-term successor to influential skipper Carlos Puyol.
Barca scouts have been to see him on several occasions, and have been left suitably impressed by the performances of the Tunisian internatonal.
Whilst the La Liga giants will be the firm favourites to clinch his signature, both the Maghpies and the Hammers are monitoring the situation, and would love to strike a deal to bring the player to the Premier League should Barca decide to look elsewhere.
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is no stranger to signing players from France, and generally has a good record in the transfer market.
Sam Allardyce meanwhile is desperate to strengthen the Hammers back line, and has made a defender his top priority for the summer transfer window, after failing to get all the players in he had hoped for in January.
The 23-year-old is thought to be available for a fee in the region of £6 million.
