Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez is once again preparing to look for bargains in the transfer window with owner Mike Ashley being as tight as ever.
And one low-budget target the Spaniard is rumoured to be looking at is former Tottenham flop Clinton N’Jie.
According to the Daily Mail, the Magpies, alongside a host of other Premier League clubs including Fulham, are keen on bringing the 25-year-old back to England on loan.
Indeed, competition for N’Jie’s signature looks fierce. Newcastle, however, should not be too disappointed if they end up missing out on the ex-Tottenham man.
Benitez is certainly right to try and bolster his attacking options during this transfer window; it is an area of the squad where Newcastle look particularly weak.
N’Jie’s struggles the last time he was playing his football in the Premier League, though, is a cause for concern. And while he has certainly improved as a footballer since then, improving his record in front of goal following a spell in England where he failed to find the back of the net in any of his appearances, his link to Newcastle will still come as an underwhelming one to some supporters.
Benitez and Newcastle need attacking reinforcements, but probably not in the shape of N’Jie.
