Newcastle United fans here in the Tavern are feeling confident as today’s Premier League fixture approaches, with anything less than three points being seen as a disaster.
The Magpies will be desperate to return to winning ways after losing to Everton last time out in the Premier League, as Rafa Benitez will be relying on the home support to pull them through later on today. Although, supporters will have to wait on a player assessment prior to kick-off at St James’ Park, as according to BBC Sport’s pre-match team news, Christian Atsu will be assessed after missing their last game with a knee injury.
Christian Atsu has struggled to make it into the starting lineup since Benitez brought Kenedy to the club in the January transfer window, as the Brazilian has been the standout performer for the Magpies. Although, a knee injury has stopped the Ghanaian from breaking into the side recently, but he will be assessed prior to today’s match.
Interestingly, Islam Slimani may make his first start at St. James’ Park since joining on loan in January, after playing for an hour at Goodison Park.
Christian Atsu has produced moments of brilliance in the current campaign but he hasn’t managed to secure a permanent place, so supporters will be keen to see what he can offer from here on in. Although, seeing Islam Slimani start for the first time at St James’ Park will excite many of our locals, as he will finish any chances that come his way.
