There have been big changes at St James’ Park this summer, with owner Mike Ashley backing new manager Steve McClaren, after the Toon Army avoided relegation on the final day of last season after a disastrous run under John Carver.
Ashley went in front of the Sky Sports camera’s that day and promised to dig deep to fund some new signings at St James’ Park, and so far the Newcastle owner has been true to his word.
And it seems Ashley is not prepared to stop just yet, with McClaren claiming he wants to add a further THREE new signings before the close of the transfer window.
“We are maybe not exactly where we want to be”, he told the Newcastle Chronicle ahead of their Premier League opener against Southampton.
“We know that, the club know that and we are still looking but we have to get the right ones and not just bring people in for the sake of it.”
McClaren is targeting a new striker, a new winger and a new centre back, although the Magpies boss has been boosted by the news Fabio Colocinni will be staying at the club.
“A big decision is Colo signing because that was always a worry to us but over the next three games before the end of the window we will probably assess it,” he added.
Our Magpies fans over by the bar here in the Football Transfer Tavern feel that the club definitely do need some more additions, but admit they are happy with the signings they have made thus far!
