Speaking recently to Ligue1.com, reported Newcastle United target, Boulaye Dia, discussed his current situation at Stade Reims, dropping a massive hint that “I can leave” while also openly speaking about a release clause.
Back in November, The Chronicle reported that Dia had been ‘leaping to the attention of scouts’ in the Premier League and that the £10.8 million-rated centre-forward was ‘on a long list of targets at United’.
It would appear that the 24-year-old’s continued impressive performances in the French top-flight – Dia currently sits level with Kylian Mbappe at the top of the Ligue 1 scoring charts, with 12 goals to his name – has done nothing to put off Premier League sides from the idea of making a move for the striker, with Newcastle, Arsenal and West Ham United all said to be interested in the Senegal international.
And, speaking recently to Ligue1.com (via Chronicle Live), Dia shed light on his situation at Reims, confirming that he has a release clause in his contract, but also suggesting that he is happy with life in France.
He said: “I can leave, just as well as I can stay! This is just the beginning of the transfer window; the month is very long. I don’t think about that. I’m focused on the results of the team, on myself, to continue to perform well and to score goals. I feel good in Reims, it’s a good family atmosphere here. Otherwise, we know my situation. I have a release clause, that’s what I can tell you.”
Despite speaking quite openly about his future, there are only three words that really matter here: “I can leave.”
Would Dia be a good signing for Newcastle?
Transfer Tavern Take
While Dia insists that he is happy with his current situation in Reims, the fact that a player would speak so openly about leaving and his release clause is a pretty massive indicator that he is eyeing a move.
And, considering that Jeff Hendrick is Newcastle’s second-highest goalscorer in the Premier League, with two goals to his name, it could easily be argued that Steve Bruce’s side could do with adding some depth to their attacking options in the January window, with Dia appearing to be a very fine option.
