Newcastle United will go head to head with Southampton to try and sign Hull City forward Jarrod Bowen.
The young attacker was in fine form for Hull last season as he rattled in an impressive 22 goals to cement his status as one of the most in-demand and highly-rated young players outside of the Premier League.
And now, according to The Express, both Newcastle and Southampton will battle it out to sign him as they look to add some more goals and attacking prowess to their squads.
Bowen has already got himself on the scoresheet four times this season despite seeing Hull struggle under Grant McCann, and if that sort of form continues, there is every chance that this interest from the Magpies and Saints could turn into a more concrete bid come January.
He is already averaging just under four shots per game this season for 20th-placed Hull while he’s also carrying the ball better than he did last term, contributing 2.3 successful dribbles per game compared with his 1.4 last season (via WhoScored).
Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce could well see Bowen as the ideal man to come into the squad and take some of the pressure off summer signing Joelinton, who got himself off the mark with a winning goal at Tottenham.
Southampton, meanwhile, are not averse to dipping into the Championship, with the club already signing Che Adams in the summer.
Bowen is surely not going to be in the Championship much longer, especially for a club struggling near the bottom like Hull.
He has so much ability and, therefore, should be able to make the step up to the Premier League if given the opportunity.
He’s already showing this season that last year was no fluke, and if he continues like he is then there is little doubt that Premier League offers will come, with Southampton and Newcastle both clearly interested in his services.
