Newcastle United haven’t mustered any magic in the January transfer window so far, with manager Rafa Benitez restricted by the board in his pursuit of key targets over the past few weeks.
Fans here in The Transfer Tavern are growing uneasy over their side’s lack of activity, and there is a growing concern that the Magpies may fail to land any new additions to the squad before the window slams shut at the end of the month. Our landlord caught up with fans around the jukebox to talk transfers, but as the discussion wore on, transfer news finally broke from St James’ Park. However, it is not quite the news fans will have hoped to hear, with the Magpies reporting via their official website that youngster Kyle Cameron had joined Scottish side Queen of the South on loan until the end of the season.
The 21-year-old defender will spend the second half of the campaign in the Scottish Championship, with the Scottish U21 international hoping a spell north of the border will aid a push for the first-team on Tyneside upon his return to the club this summer.
Landlord’s Verdict: Cameron is a long way from breaking into the first-team at St James’ Park, and a loan move to play under former Everton full-back Gary Naysmith is the perfect switch for the player at this point in time.
Fans will wish the player all the best for the remainder of the campaign, but will hope that the next time the club announce a transfer via their official site it will be a major incoming signing that will help guide the side away from the bottom three over the course of the second half of the campaign.
