Newcastle desperately need to sign an attacking midfielder in the January transfer window.
The Magpies have struggled for goals bar a spell against Manchester United this season. New signing Salomon Rondon has looked isolated in attack and is yet to score since joining the club on loan from West Brom. As a result, Newcastle are languishing in the relegation zone, yet to win a game in the Premier League this season.
A new attacking midfielder should be top of Rafael Benitez’s priority list when the transfer window reopens in January. Newcastle need someone who can bring their forwards into the game and help transition defence into attack. The ideal recruit could be Blackburn Rovers hotshot – Bradley Dack.
Valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt, the Englishman has been a crucial player for Rovers since joining from Gillingham last summer. Dack enjoyed a stunning campaign in League One, scoring 18 goals, helping his new side secure a swift return to the Championship; earning the League One Player of the Year award in the process. Dack’s excellent performances have continued in the higher division with eight goals and five assists to his name already this season.
The former Braintree Town man has proven his worth in the second tier of English football – now is the time to bring him to the Premier League. The 24-year-old has the energy, creativity and quality that Newcastle have sorely lacked this season. The playmaker’s link-up play would help bring the best out of Rondon in attack and spark a revival in the New Year that could see Newcastle steer away from danger.
With Tottenham and West Brom also reportedly monitoring his situation at Ewood Park, Benitez must move quickly to secure his signature.
