John Cross from Mirror Football suggests to Newcastle United supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern that the club are looking to sign both Reading goalkeeping Alex McCarthy and Manchester City winger Scott Sinclair in a move to bring some English players to St. James’ Park this summer.
The Magpies have gained a reputation for signing a team full of French players with the encouragement of chief scout Graham Carr who has been instrumental in the club’s transfer strategy.
However after the controversial appointment of Joe Kinnear as Director of Football this summer they are now looking to add more English players to a split dressing room.
McCarthy, 23, was in fine form for the Royals last season despite their relegation from the Premier League and the shot stopper has been outlined to replace Tim Krul at the North East club if Arsenal are successful in their attempt to sign the Dutch international goalkeeper.
While Citizens ouctast Scott Sinclair is also thought to be a target. The 24-year-old English winger has had a disastrous time at the Etihad Stadium after his transfer from Swansea City with only 14 appearances last season. He could switch to St. James’ Park to claim regular first team football and a fresh start in his professional career.
Will Newcastle United lure any of the pair to Tyneside this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
