Martin Dubravka has signed a six-year contract extension with Newcastle United (via nufc.co.uk).
Which brother can go further in the game?
The Slovakian joined the Magpies from Sparta Prague in 2017 and has now committed his long-term future to the Premier League club.
He has been an ever-present for Newcastle since his arrival and has made 59 appearances for them in total (Transfermarkt), including all nine of their league outings so far this season (via Transfermarkt).
Despite Newcastle’s poor start to the campaign, Dubravka is one player who has actually played well of late. Indeed, he kept clean sheets against both Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester United recently, whilst also finishing with a WhoScored rating of 7.49 against Chelsea on Saturday.
He has been one of few who have produced consistently good performances for the Toon in recent years, highlighted by the fact that he won the North East Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year award in 2018 (via nufc.co.uk).
Speaking to Newcastle United’s official website, the Slovak admitted his delight at penning new terms at St. James’ Park: “It’s been almost two years and I’ve found great people here who I can call friends. I’ve enjoyed my time here and I’m very glad that I can stay here for another six years.”
Newcastle’s supporters are delighted that the shot-stopper has agreed to prolong his stay on Tyneside, with plenty of them expressing their happiness at the news on Twitter…
