Mohamed Diame’s contract at Newcastle United is set to expire in the summer, though a clause in it could end up delaying an imminent exit out of St. James’ Park.
Chronicle Live reports that Diame is on course to securing a one-year extension with the 31-year-old close to reaching the amount of games needed for that extension clause to become active.
The same outlet, however, claims that Diame wants a longer deal as he plots to stay at St. James’ Park until at least 2021.
At 31 (32 in June), though, and with a promising midfielder such as Sean Longstaff at disposal, the Magpies would be better off moving on the former Hull City and West Ham United man.
In his recent absence through injury, they have coped exceptionally well in the middle of the park with both Longstaff and Isaac Hayden stepping up.
You can have a look at what Newcastle supporters are saying about the ex-Senegal international below…
A properly ran club would thank him for his services and spend money on an upgrade. New 2 year extension incoming.

Would I? No. Will Rafa? Absolutely.

If we had an owner who cared about the club and invested and gave Rafa £100m in the summer there’s no way Diame would get a new contract so that means he’ll probably get one
