Newcastle United: Fans rave over Fabian Schar

Despite Newcastle’s many defensive frailties evident in their big losses to the likes of Norwich and Leicester City this season, Fabian Schar seemingly retains the support of supporters online.
The Swiss defender has been a mainstay in the Newcastle side for the past two seasons, even being linked to an array of top-flight clubs including Arsenal and Tottenham according to the Mirror.
Schar’s defensive ability is only complimented by his contribution going forward, with WhoScored.com outlining his five goals in two seasons for the Magpies – including being awarded an impressive seven Man of the Match awards in that time.
Although Steve Bruce’s men have leaked 13 goals already this season, Schar leads the way in terms of interceptions per game this season, so is clearly making an impact on Tyneside.
The 27-year-old, who is valued at £10.8 million (as per Transfermarkt), is also performing on the international front for his country, helping to spearhead a Euro 2020 qualification race where Switzerland are only four points off a top-two spot with a game in hand.
Understandably, some Newcastle fans have been praising the defender whilst debating over the best assets of the squad.
Schar is our best defender & arguably best player. Joelinton has it all to do for me. Certainly is not a number 9. Almiron just needs a break & to be used properly. I’d give him a free role & just let him run at defences & use his pace.

Your assessment of Schär is wrong he’s a Rolls Royce player and would slot in with any top team, I mean if David Luiz can…..

I think schar is unbelievable. an absolute bargain but I agree with everything else almiron I think he’s class just needs to think ahead but he will be fine

I wonder if there is a case of cashing in on Schar whilst his apparent value is highest it ever will be. Brilliant footballer, but getting him in the team means we almost always have to play with a back three. It kind of takes away from our attacking players.

Don’t agree with this at all.
Utter nonsense mate.

He’d actually be more suited to clubs like PSG/Bayern who have 70% because their CB’s get a lot more time on the ball to play passes against sides that sit off.
Ball playing CB’s are the type Big clubs look for because they need them for when they’re playing teams that sit back.
