Newcastle United favourites to land January deal that could save their season

The Liverpool supporters in the Transfer Tavern are frustrated by their side’s failure to record victory in back to back home matches this week.

It looked as if Liverpool had found a recipe for success in the final third in recent weeks after they scored 19 goals in just 6 Premier League matches prior to the Merseyside derby, but their last two fixtures suggest consistency remains an issue at the club. Liverpool drew a blank at Anfield last night despite the fact Jurgen Klopp opted to restore the so-called big-four to his starting line-up for their fixture with West Bromwich Albion.

Liverpool have only failed to score on two previous occasions this season in fixtures against Manchester City and Manchester United.

Indeed, The Reds in the Tavern have been spoilt to plenty of imperious attacking performances from the likes of Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino.

The performances of Salah and Firmino have severely restricted Daniel Sturridge’s exposure to the first-team so far this season, and his lack of opportunity could force him out of Anfield in January.

According to Skybet, Newcastle are favourites to land the England international with odds as short as 4/1 for him to make the switch to the North-East in the mid-season window.

West Ham are close second-favourites to secure his signature in January, with a marginally higher price of 6/1 currently available.

The market suggests Sturridge’s future is far from conclusive at the moment, but his decision to move to either The Magpies or The Hammers could prove to be a pivotal factor in the battle to avoid relegation this season.

Both Newcastle and West Ham have desperately struggled for goals throughout this campaign, with only 30 goals between the clubs after 34 matches.

Clearly, both sides will require a dramatic improvement in this regard if they wish to avoid the drop to The Championship this season, and the signing of Sturridge would certainly catalyse a much-needed improvement for both sides.

The goal-scoring impact of Sturridge should be more than enough to drive either of the aforementioned sides clear of the relegation zone, and into the safety of mid-table obscurity during the second-half of the season.

With that being said, Newcastle must ensure they beat West Ham to his signature if they wish to avoid a relegation scrap this season.
