The Chronicle’s chief Newcastle United writer, Lee Ryder, has revealed when Toon boss Steve Bruce could be sacked.
This comes after the North East club were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Championship side Brentford in the quarter-final of that competition on Tuesday. In his article, Ryder has revealed that Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley won’t be happy with that EFL Cup exit, with the journalist explaining that Bruce ‘isn’t bulletproof’ at St. James’ Park, though Ryder did also clarify that Ashley isn’t ‘about to hit the panic button’ just yet.
Bruce is unpopular with Newcastle United fans
It may be fair to say that not many Newcastle United supporters would be particularly upset about Bruce’s departure. Toon news Twitter account @NUFC360 ran a poll earlier this week asking supporters of the North East club if they want Bruce to be sacked.
This poll attracted over 27,000 votes and the overwhelming majority voted ‘yes,’ indicating that they want to see the 59-year-old leave St. James’ Park.
So, when could Bruce get sacked?
While it’s clear that a lot of Newcastle United fans have seen enough of Bruce at their club, they may have to wait a while longer to see him relieved of his duties.
Per Ryder, Toon owner Ashley is guided by managing director Charnley, as well as Justin Barnes and Keith Bishop, and it’s claimed that they could sack Bruce if they feel they are ‘under serious threat of relegation.’
Do you think Bruce will be sacked this season?
With the Toon currently sitting in 12th place on the league table, eight points clear of the relegation zone, that may mean that Bruce’s job is safe as we approach the new year. However, perhaps that could all change with Manchester City, Liverpool and Leicester on the horizon.
