The Newcastle United fans who are gathered around the jukebox in The Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing comments made by one of their players with regards to his future at the club.
The Chronicle is reporting that striker Aleksandr Mitrovic is happy to stay with the club next season despite speculation surrounding his future.
Mitrovic is being linked with a move to Portugal with Sporting Lisbon but the forward has said he will only speak to other clubs if the club accept an approach from interested parties.
The 21 year old felt the need to comment on the speculation after Portugese publication Record claimed that the forward had already spoken to the Lisbon club about a move to Portugal this summer. Speaking about the speculation, Mitrovic said:
“I have four more years of [my] contract with Newcastle and I haven’t received any official approach so far. I’m happy in England, of course, but it’s always good to see my name linked to a club like Sporting – it’s a big club.”
“If something comes up they will always have to talk with Newcastle first, and only then with me and with my representative.”
Our landlord here in The Tavern thinks that Mitrovic would be an asset for Newcastle next season especially as they will be looking for an immediate Premier League return next season and think that the club should fend of any approaches for the forward this summer.
