Newcastle United's season could well hinge on the success of their January transfers, with manager Rafa Benitez desperate to bring in some new talent to his squad.

The Magpies are once again flirting with the relegation places in the Premier League, and with issues off the field still affecting the club, fans will be hoping to see any potential takeover of the club completed in due course and funds freed up to make new additions to the ranks.

We at the Tavern feel a bit for the Toon Army, and we hope ourselves that the club do indeed go out and have a go in January to give them the best chance possible of survival.

And one man who we think needs to be top of their list is Brentford striker Neal Maupay, who has been in superb form for the Bees this term, smashing in an impressive 15 goals already despite the team struggling in general.

The 22-year-old appears all set to find himself in the Premier League sooner or later, and with Newcastle needing goals, Maupay would be the ideal sort of signing for the club.

The Frenchman will only get better too with playing with better players and at a higher level, so if Benitez can indeed convince his board to part with the funds to sign such a player, then Newcastle could well have one of the game's brightest striking talents on their hands.

Goals win games, as they say in football, and Maupay would certainly provide just that for the Toon if he was to make a move.

Newcastle fans, what do you think? Would Maupay fit in? Let us know in the comments!
