The Football Transfer Tavern has enjoyed a relatively busy Monday but things have tailed off tonight with West Ham versus Sunderland seemingly failing to attract the punters.
One of the few taking in the game at the bar is the Daily Star‘s Steve Morgan who whispers to me that he’s heard some intriguing gossip about a popular Manchester City player.
He claims that City defender Micah Richards is being lined up by Newcastle United for a summer switch to St. James’ Park.
The 25-year-old former England international has suffered another frustrating season as injuries curtail his first team action, with just nine appearances for Manuel Pellegrini’s side under his belt.
With his contract at the Etihad Stadium expiring in the summer, it seems that Richards will depart the club where he has spent his entire career.
Magpies boss Alan Pardew is prepared to match his current £72,000-a-week salary if he makes the switch to the North East and that could represent a viable option for the 13-cap England star.
Should City really let their longest-serving player leave this summer? Does a move to Newcastle make sense? Let us know your thoughts below.
